From the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this ought not be so.
James 3:10
What damage can be done with words! Often times I find myself ready to blast my spouse or co-worker. But that “still small voice”, I like to call God, stops me. When I take a deep breath, the urge often passes.
James tells us that our tongue is “a restless evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:8) It’s our choice the words we use. Our speech can lift-up as swiftly as it can tear down. Once the words are spoken, they cannot be taken back. In our anger we can hurt deeply, but in the same turn in our anger we can forgive.
Let your speech be honest and sincere, but delivered with compassion and love.
Application
Do you let your tongue or God guide your words?
Prayer
May the works of our mouth and the mediations of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord. (Psalms 19:14)
