“Ugly”

Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Matthew 22:37-39

I often skim the social media sites to glean the day’s news according to the impressions of others. Most of the posts and tweets are uplifting and encouraging. Giving children accolades or asking for prayer for friends and family. There is a small group that is a very loud group with their opinions and judgments, often harsh and brash and full of condemnation. The saddest part of all is that small group is often Christians attacking Christians.

As I read the attacking comments, I often want to blast back. But realize that God doesn’t call man to protect Him. He calls man to love Him. And love others. Christians acting ugly and  justifying it under a guise to keep someone in check; isn’t love.

These type actions can happen to any of us—whether we are the person acting ugly or receiving the ugly actions. Words hurt everyone involved. Stop and think before you blast, and take time to do what is right to others.

Application
When you are tempted to speak harshly this week, think about the greatest commandment of all.

Prayer
God, thank you for your grace and patience.
