This is the one whom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said, “The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’”
Matthew 3:3
We hadn’t seen our son for 10 weeks. We had received three letters and three short phone calls. We traveled approximately 1,000 miles, and now sitting in the bleachers waiting for boot camp graduation to begin, the anticipation was at its peak. Pride and joy were just two of the feelings I remember as the young men and women entered the gymnasium. There was so much excitement and love from the family and friends who attended the ceremony. And everyone wanted a glimpse of their sailor.
As the season of advent begins, I’m reminded that this is the season of preparation for the coming of the Christ child. Each year we await His return, just like it was the first Christmas—the birth of Jesus.
In our daily work, we should anticipate with joy what God has in store for us, not just on special occasions.
