“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalm 73:26
If the term “you are what you eat” were literally true, me and my son would be a gallon of ice cream. When I was pregnant with my son, I consumed ice cream whenever possible. It was always in the buggy every time I went to the grocery store. I did not realize just how much of the sweet creamy delight I was consuming until after my son was born, and it was no longer in the grocery cart.
The psalmist refers to God as his “portion.” He acknowledges that the flesh is weak and that temptations will come; however, he knows God is enough for whatever he faces. God provides a sufficient portion. It’s not quantity, but quality that counts.
Unlike my desires to eat endless quantities of ice cream, God knows the right portion to give me in each situation. All I have to do is ask, and then humbly receive.
Application
Depend on God to be your portion in every situation.
Prayer
Give me a hunger for Your Word, Father. I want to crave a daily portion of You.
