“Balanced?”

He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water or rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

Titus 3:5

When I reconcile my bank account, I match my checkbook record with that of the bank’s. Most of the time the accounts balance, and if they don’t after putting it down for a couple of hours, I find my mistake.

Most audits, whether it’s a personal bank account, inventory at work, or an accrediting agency require that two accounts balance at the end of the review. Spiritual accounts don’t work on that premise. The Bible says all people have sinned, and that sin separates us from God. So if we want a relationship with God, our negative sin needs a positive action to balance, right?

John Wesley believed that God’s grace is a wonderful gift freely offered to humankind. We do not “earn” it. Some call it prevenient grace; grace given by God that precedes the act of the sinner exercising saving faith in Jesus Christ.

Nothing we can do is good enough to compensate for our sin. But God has taken care of that by   sacrificing His son. I do my part to balance my checkbook. God’s part in balancing our sin      account is overflowing. All we have to do is ask. It’s a free gift to balance our sin account.

Application

God’s love is the only thing that can cancel sin.

Prayer

Father, thank you for loving me so much, that you gave your only son to cancel my sin.
