“Rainbows”

“I will set up my covenant with you so that never again will all life be cut off by floodwaters. There will never again be a flood to destroy the earth.”

Genesis 9:11

A covenant is an agreement made between two parties. It may be a marriage covenant, a work or business agreement, or a handshake between friends. These types of agreements require both parties to “bring something” to the table. An example at work might be I will agree to come in and work your schedule on Wednesday, if you will work mine on Saturday. Both people give and take to make the arrangement work.
The covenant God made with Noah was different. God didn’t require any action from Noah or humankind. He simply said, “never again.”
Floods continue to happen, whether they are creek in the backyard that floods your basement or a tsunami that wipes out thousands. Even though there is destruction, God’s promise holds strong, He sent the rainbow as a reminder of His convent.
Application
When have you made a promise that was not conditional?
Prayer
Father, thank you for rainbows. Thank you that your promise is not conditional.
