“Commitment”

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.

Matthew 4:19-20

 

What a simple offer. The call and promise from Jesus is attractive, but remains powerless without a decision on our part.

What if Peter and Andrew had said, “Thanks for the invitation. Can we get back with you after fishing season?” They would have missed their opportunity and not become Jesus’ disciples. Jesus expected a decision right then. Real decisions require action. So Peter and Andrew left their fishing nets and followed Jesus.

Without decision and action, commitment is just an interesting idea.
