“Worth”

Come to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by the people, but he is precious to God who chose him.”

1 Peter 2:4

Webster defines value as “the amount of money that something is worth”. Have you ever thought about what you are worth? In an article written by Samuel H. Williamson, a salve in the late 1800’s was worth approximately $130,000 in today’s prices. That sounds like a high price tag, but in the South that about the average cost of a middle class home.

Value often times isn’t the price tag that is associated; it’s the self-worth. People put price tags on items; but the real value often depends on who has owned it in the past. A good example is an antique table from the late 1800’s in mint condition or a 1960s VW van that still runs. Who or what determines the value and worth?

So with these thoughts, let’s look back at our own personal value. Who owns you? Was there a price paid for me? The Bible tells us we are bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus Christ; therefore, we belong to God.

 Application

What does your value mean to you?

 Prayer

Father, may I not confuse my possessions with my personal value. Thank you for loving me.
