“Righteousness”

“We are made right in God’s sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins.”

Romans 3:22a

I cook, but I don’t consider myself a baker or a chef. There are times I’m inspired to try to cook a new dish. I
may have to improvise on an ingredient or a cooking tool. More times than not, the dish doesn’t taste or look like the one that inspired my attempt.

Personal righteousness is similar to my inspired cooking. I begin to compare myself with other people or compare friends or co-workers with other people. I might justify that I’m not so bad, because I’ve not bounced a check or cheated on my taxes. Subconsciously thinking God must be more pleased with me. Fortunately, God doesn’t compare in order to measure. If he did, we would all fall short. Instead God sent his son, Jesus, so that we are forgiven of our sins and no comparisons or substitutions are needed.

Application
Are you measuring or are you loving the sinner?

Prayer
Thank you for sending your son, Jesus, so that my sins are forgiven.
