“Who Holds the Future?”

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.

 Romans 8:28

 

Wouldn’t we all like to know what lies ahead in the future? For some, this knowledge could be advantageous; for others, it could be disappointing.

While we do not know exactly how future events will turn out, we are comforted by this scripture in knowing that whatever happens, God works things out for our good. He is continually working in our lives, weaving events and circumstances together in a way that can seem confusing. While we may not understand our present, we can rest assured that He controls our future. All we have to do is love Him and be obedient to His calling and direction.

Application

Are we surrendered to God? Do we let Him control our lives or do we manipulate and control our own circumstances, because we don’t trust anyone else to do it? This scripture makes it clear that He will not fail, and in this we can have peace and understanding.

Prayer

Lord, thank you that you care enough about our lives to continually be in our presence, working out the details for our good. Help us have peace in knowing that although we can’t control our circumstances that you are ultimately in control of it all. Remind us through your daily presence that we can trust you with everything because you are faithful. Thank you for your promises, and help us live always in complete obedience to you.
