God is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine.
Ephesians 3:20
Standing in the ER, I saw my father convulse and tighten. The nurse pulled the curtain and the doctor began working. My mother and I wrapped our arms around each other and prayed.
After the moments of frightened reflection, I remembered the words of Jesus, “Ask, and it will be given to you” Matthew 7:7. “Do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you” Isaiah 41:10.
We prayed at that moment, but also continued to pray through the weeks ahead. My father survived the stroke and has lived 16, plus years. His quality of life has changed, but what a tremendous gift to allow him to watch his grandchildren grow-up. God may not give us exactly what we ask for, but He will respond in love.
Whether you or a family member or a friend has one day or 100 years of life ahead, God’s love will sustain you and bless you.
Application
Realize even the painful moments are blessings.
Prayer
Hear my earnest prayer, oh God.
