“Free?”

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—

Ephesians 2:8

 

“Nothing is free.” This was a statement I heard often growing up. Having parents raised in the depression era, they instilled in me you work for what you get—nothing is handed to you. I, in-turn, correct my kids with “it’s included” when they says “it’s free.” My effort is to remind them someone paid.

 

God has a totally different standard, and He gives the best free gift ever—salvation. He gave his son, Jesus Christ, so we may live eternally with Him. I may think that society wants me to be good, kind, and giving, so that I may earn the gift. But God has a different plan. We are all sinners saved by grace.
