“Direction”

Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:1-6

Football Friday nights were so much fun when my kids were in high school band. My daughter had a friend who was a band supporter and often made the out-of-town trips with me. The band director was great about emailing all the parents Trip Sheets, so we would have not only written directions, but the street address for our GPS. Early in our Friday night travels, I discovered my daughter’s friend was directionally challenged. I counted on her to be my co-pilot for the trip, by giving her my Trip Sheet and expecting her to help me navigate in unfamiliar towns. It only took one trip to discover, she was not my co-pilot.

As Jesus is telling the disciples of his final destination, an amazing place with room for all. Thomas seeks directions from Jesus on how to get there. Jesus answers, “I am the way the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus didn’t need a co-pilot for directions. Thomas may have been a little confused at first, but he eventually gets the big picture.

Often I think I need a road map for everything, or at least a check list. In reality, if I will rely on Jesus, the path will be made straight; whether at work, home, or just having fun.

Application
Where do I look for direction?

Prayer
Thank you Father for preparing the way.
