“No Big Deals”

And ‘don’t sin by letting anger gain control over you’. Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a mighty foothold to the Devil.”

Ephesians 4:26-27

College residence hall move-in day is known for chaos. Our first family experience was greeted with rain. Parents jockeying for the closest parking space; waiting your turn for the hand trucks; and trying not to slip on the wet floor were just a few of the challenges to overcome.

Upper classmen (males) make their presence known and offer to help move the ladies into the dorm. And the rain didn’t stop the opportunity. As we secured a closer parking space and began to unload, three young men surfaced to help. Graciously, we allowed them to load the dolly and assist with the move. As we turned the corner and the bookcase slid off the dolly onto the wet ground, the back of the bookcase busted. The expression of helplessness and shock covered the young men’s faces. I simply said, “There are no bid deals today.” We picked up the bookcase and continued to move.

Anger and frustration were easy reactions. Something material, replaceable, was damaged; we weren’t. God’s grace was shown, and the day ended better than expected.

Application

The next time something doesn’t go just right, will you react with anger, or show God’s grace.

Prayer

Dear Lord, may I follow your example and live a life full of grace.
