Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.
Philippians 1:27a
Ever had one of those days when at least six people call on you to do six different things all at the same time? Those days for me usually begin at home with a spouse or a child insisting I help with something before everyone walks out the door. Then it escalates as the day progresses with interruptions at work. You realize that the work day is just about to end and nothing on your “to do list” was accomplished. On the ride home a child calls to ask “what’s for dinner?” Then you snap. Before you know it you’ve unleashed your entire day on someone you love deeply, over something so unimportant.
Then scripture hits you in the face. “Whatever happens…”—a child hungry. “Conduct yourself…”—keep things in perspective. “In a manner worthy….”—a way that shows who I really am. “of the gospel of Christ….”—and whose I am.
I’m not sure what your day looks like, but know that each day we have a choice in how we respond. Take a deep breath and remember whose you are.
Application
What are you facing right now? How will you respond?
Prayer
Thank you for being patient with me. Help me to be patient with others.
