When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?
Psalm 8:3-4
Riding in the car with my daughter as dust turns to night; she gazes out of the window and says, “God appreciation moment!” The sky is painted in orange and purple hues with a large orangish moon rising. She doesn’t miss an opportunity to give God the credit for a beautifully painted sky. Sometimes as adults we take for granted a moonlit night.
David wrote many of the psalms. I wonder if he wrote Psalm 8 on a clear moonlit night. The entire chapter captures the wonder of the night sky and points out that we too are God’s creation and that He cares for us. Moon, stars, kids, and cats—God made them all. Everything God created is in His family; made in love.
Application
The next time the moon shines bright, marvel at God’s handy-work and be thankful that God made you.
Prayer
Thank you for making me.
